Taco Spices Mixed

Taco seasoning is something many of us grew up using without thinking much about it. At the time, those small store-bought packets were quick and convenient. However, they often tasted the same. Heavy on salt and light on real flavour. As you start cooking more from scratch, it becomes clear that tacos can be so much better with this easy bold taco seasoning.

Easy Home Made Tacos

This taco seasoning starts with ancho chili powder, which gives it a deep, mild heat and a slightly sweet taste. Sinceancho chilies are dried poblano peppers, they add warmth without being too spicy. Next, cumin brings an earthy flavour, while Mexican oregano adds a light herbal note that feels more true to classic taco flavours.

From there, the remaining spices work together to round things out. Paprika adds colour and a gentle sweetness. Meanwhile, garlic powder and onion powder create a savoury base that coats meat and vegetables evenly. In addition, black pepper adds a bit of bite, and ground coriander finishes the blend with a fresh, slightly citrus flavour. Overall, nothing stands out too much, and nothing gets lost.

One of the biggest benefits of making your own easy bold taco seasoning is control. You can adjust the salt and use spices you already have in your kitchen. Because of this, there are no fillers, no additives, and no mystery ingredients. Best of all, it takes just a few minutes to mix and stores well in a jar or container.

Finally, this seasoning works on more than just tacos. Use it on ground beef, chicken, roasted vegetables, potatoes, or even mixed into beans. Once you try a homemade blend like this, it’s hard to go back to store-bought. In the end, simple ingredients really do make better tacos.

Pair this recipe with my Pico De Gallo recipe. Better than store bought ad made in less than 5 minutes.

If you prefer your seasoning to be more like the store bought version, here is my recipe for my taco seasoning with sugar and cornstarch. It helps to caramelizing the meat and create a thicker sauce.
